KNOW GREAT GRUB WORKSHOP™The KNOW Great Grub Workshop series focuses on the beneficial factors of eating healthy by designating the positive effects of each core food grouping and the ability of each of these food options to enable our children to play, grow, think and attain the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
The core functions of the food elements are illustrated for the children in a fun-filled, interactive medium that encourages our young people to retain the target messages. It is the purpose of the KNOW Great Grub Workshop to assist every child in gaining the desire to explore healthy food options and explore exercise as play opportunities. This exploration helps to promote a life-long commitment to the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and diverse eating habits in our children.
KNOW GREAT GRUB WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
PROMOTING EQUALITY
· reduce health disparities among economic and geographic sub-sections
· reduce health disparities resulting from lack of parental oversight or intervention
· provide empowering knowledge and options directly to each child that enables them to become the leader in choosing a healthier life
KNOWLEDGE
· provide the education, skills, and tools that assist in reforming behavioral habits
· emphasize the importance of social environment to individual health, community health, and long-term outcomes
· reduce the proportion of children who are overweight or obese by assisting in the formation of healthy eating habits, understanding of daily caloric requirements and physical activity recommendations
· enable our young people to attain those skills that assist them in leading a healthier lifestyle today so that they can minimize potential health issues that are becoming commonplace within our society
· ensure each child learns to employ the recommendations of the new food pyramid model to achieve exceptional results and understand how healthy habits contribute to their ability to incorporate fun play-exercise activity into their day
· encourage our young people to gain the desire to explore healthy food options to help promote a life-long commitment to the benefits of healthy and diverse eating habits
· ensure an understanding and access to the correct quantity and type of physical activity
· illustrate the benefits of physical activity to the maintenance of a healthy body, obtainment of psychological well- being and prevention of common disease
· illustrate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle by blending the usefulness of the food groupings with the confirmation that exercise means completing the true job of a child, to play
TOOLS
· Provide children with healthy meal samples to illustrate the composition of a healthy meal option and correct portion sizes
· Provide children with admission opportunities to enable them to access potential activity sites within their community.
· Provide children with basic play tools that enable them to begin forming participatory habits within child play as activity venues.
COMMUNITY
· ensure each child has access to multiple sources of assistance/health services/nutritional options
· reaffirm the commitment of every portion of our community to ensuring each child develops lifetime habits that enable them to KNOW how to grow stronger and healthier each day
· ensure a crossover of all healthy dietary skills into the home and lives of our children through interactive tools that enable every child to become an active participant in their own healthy lifestyles
