KNOW FIRE SAFETY™
The fundamental focus of the KNOW Fire Safety Workshop is to ensure that every child gains the knowledge necessary to identify fire safety risks, eradicate potential fire risks within the home environment and to integrate fire reactive skills in a manner that enables the child to act proactively to any fire danger scenario regardless of the presence of adult supervisors. This ability of each child to integrate the workshop skills into their lives in a manner that enables action from a habitual response ensures that if a fire threat were to occur, the child will act with immediacy rather than pausing to determine the best safety practices to employ to remove themselves from the dangers that exist.
The KNOW Fire Safety Workshop series provides each child with the education, knowledge and best practices that will enable them to minimize potential fire risks within the home and employ fire reactive best practices in the event a fire danger does occur in their home, school or play environment. The obtainment and implementation of these best practice actions has been proven to reduce both the occurrence of fires within the home and the devastation that can occur if the recommended evacuation practices are not employed.
KNOW FIRE SAFETY WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
PROMOTING EQUALITY
· reduce safety disparities among economic and geographic sub-sections
· reduce the number of deaths and series outcomes from unintentional injuries
· ensure every child has the skills and ability to protect themselves when in the home without adult presence
KNOWLEDGE
· ensure that each child has the critical fire prevention and fire reactive skill set necessary to become active participants in their own safety and well-being by providing the education that enables them to prevent the most common fire hazards that occur within the home environment
· deliver the critical knowledge and skills in a fun-filled, message-centric event designed to ensure retention
· demonstrate the best responses to fire dangers in a variety of settings
· provide the education, skills, and tools that assist in reforming behavioral habits
· reduce the number of deaths and series outcomes from unintentional injuries
· raise the level of fire reactive skills to assist each child reacting from habitual response in the event a fire occurs within their environment
· promote an awareness and understanding of the causes and prevention techniques for the most common causes of home fires
· ensure each child gains an understanding of the importance of identifying and correcting home safety hazards
TOOLS
· empower our youth to make modifications to their physical environment that assist in raising the levels of safety
· ensure that appropriate fire safety and prevention tools are available to allow each child to implement safety corrective actions
COMMUNITY
· reaffirm the commitment of every portion of our community to ensuring each child develops lifetime habits that enable them to KNOW how to grow stronger and safer each day
· assist the child in identifying public venues where they may obtain assistance if help becomes necessary including standards such as police and fire but more unusual public resources such as supporting business locations
· facilitate a relationship between our youth and community protective personnel and medical providers increasing the likelihood that applicable assistance will be sought by the child
· provide each child with the ability connect with community members dedicated to ensuring home safety practices are implemented
· the child will confirm the placement of committed community service personnel as the heroes of our community
