WHO IS THE KNOW PROJECT?

The KNOW Project is an IRS approved 501(c)(3)  non-profit organization based in Blair County Pennsylvania whose sole purpose is to provide fun-filled, interactive workshops directly to children that enable them to gain the fundamental knowledge, tools, and skills that they need to become active participants in their own health, safety, and well-being.  By providing these fundamental tools directly to each child, we  empower them to make the informed choices that lead to healthier, safer lives today and brighter futures tomorrow!

Statistics have proven that the earlier we integrate these skills into  the lives of our youth, the higher the likelihood that our children will form positive lifetime habits that enable them to live, learn, and grow into vital members of our communities.  With these statistics in mind, the KNOW Project workshops focus on delivering each essential skill set to children between the ages of 3 and 11 years old.  Each workshop is carefully constructed to meet the learning styles, skill sets, and interest base of the youth within these age groupings.

The KNOW Project blends strategic lessons delivered by the most effective individuals for each subject matter, interactive learning activity, children focused take home materials, and strong community involvement to enable every young person to integrate the skills taught within the workshops into their homes and lives.

The KNOW Project approach to safety and wellness education is unusual in that all messages, materials, and workshops focus entirely on those who will benefit the most from the correct delivery of each safety and wellness skill, America’s children!

This direct delivery of every message to the child empowers the youth of America in becoming active participants in their own health, safety, and well-being.  The sole purpose of the KNOW Project is to present every parent, partner, and community with a viable means of

· enabling our youth to attain those skills that assist them in leading a safer, healthier lifestyle today and thus minimize the impact of safety and health issues that are becoming commonplace within our society

· empowering our youth in the areas of public and private health and safety issues and promoting those skills that will minimize potential at risk situational incidences.

· ensuring that our children have an understanding of the best practices that they may employ to improve their quality of live by raising the child’s awareness of exiting dangers, community alternatives, and positive choices in a high impact, low pressure venue

· ensuring that each child understands that they live in a community filled with committed individuals who dedicate their lives, hearts and time to creating a safe, healthy environment where our children can learn, live and grow!

· encouraging the formation of a strong bond between our dedicated community heroes and our youth thus minimizing the likelihood of at risk behavior in future years and confirming the availability of help and assistance for every child if an event occurs that requires the child have a trusted source of help

· facilitating the ability of each child across America to react appropriately to any situational  danger whether at home, school, or play regardless of the source of the risk and the presences of adult assistance

· assisting in building a community around each child that ensures that our children KNOW they have trusted sources of help available from businesses, service personnel and individuals across their community.

The KNOW Project provides these effective workshops to event organizers and service groups who dedicate their time and efforts to helping children become active participants in their own health, safety, and well-being.

Research has proven that the earlier we integrate the proper health and safety habits into the knowledge base of our youth, the higher the ability of these children to create and maintain these positive habits for a lifetime

WHAT IS A KNOW PROJECT WORKSHOP?

The KNOW Project Workshops are designed to be presented as a stand alone full scale kid’s day event or for integration into a planned community outreach program conducted by other police partners, community organizations, businesses, and groups dedicated to ensuring that each child KNOWS how to grow up strong, healthy and safe.

Each workshop begins with the delivery of the focus messages by the most effective individuals for each subject matter.  The KNOW Project delivers each workshop in cooperation with area law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical personnel, parents, businesses, and volunteers.  The delivery of the workshops by the heroes that live and work within each community is proven to promote a higher level of retention of the knowledge and begins the process of forming the critical bond between our young people and the service community that will enable each child to appreciate the communities in which they live.

Each workshop incorporates a variety of educational methodology that will enable all attendees to capitalize on the learning style that best meets their educational needs.  The works promote a crossover educational opportunity in the form of act, hear, learn within the actual workshop and see, remember, act within the home, school, and play environments, enabling the workshop components to become habits that are easily integrated into the daily lives of our youth.

Upon completion of the delivery of the core knowledge base, each child completes a series of positive, message-focused interactive programs.  Each activity component is designed to imprint the desired safety knowledge and skills and ensure that each child gains the ability to apply the correct actions for the applicable situation and begins forming lifetime habits that assist them in growing up strong, healthy, and safe.

The workshops then assist each child in creating a group of take home materials that they can use for the implement the knowledge and skills gained at the workshop regardless of the level of adult supervision or input.  This ability to use the take home specific materials on their own empowers our young people in becoming active participants in their own safety and well-being and minimizes potential inhibitors to safety and wellness such as a less engaged parental figure.

The final step to each workshop is the awarding of the certificate showing that the child KNOWS how to grow up strong, healthy.  This certificate is awarded by an individual within the community who emulates all of the positive goals that we wish to have each child strive to attain.  During the presentation ceremony, the child is provided with the ability to obtain a final event photograph with the community hero awarding the certificate.  These visual reminders of the successful completion of the KNOW Project workshop have become a great source of pride to each child who has participated in past workshops.
