KNOW HOME SAFETY™
One of the most common dangers posed to our youth are the accidents and injuries that occur within the home environment. Many of these injuries can be prevented by empowering our children with the knowledge that they need to understand the most common causes of accidents within the home and providing them with the skills and tools necessary to implement prevention practices and become active participants in their own safety and well-being. The KNOW Home Safety Workshop provides each child with the education, knowledge, and best practices that will enable them to minimize potential risk factors and practice safe habits each day. This obtainment and implementation of these practices has been proven to reduce the most common and serious injuries that occur within the home.
The KNOW Home Safety Workshop takes a positive approach to injury prevention by isolating the most common causes of injury and educating the children in the safety practices that they can employ to minimize the occurrence of these accidents. The single most effective factor in the prevention of accidents and injuries is education and KNOW delivers this necessary education through the interactive workshop components that enable every child to form situational habits, use safety promoting tools and employ accident prevention practices that minimize potential risks.
KNOW HOME SAFETY WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
PROMOTING EQUALITY
· reduce safety disparities among economic and geographic sub-sections
· reduce the number of deaths and series outcomes from unintentional injuries
· reduce safety disparities resulting from lack of parental oversight or intervention
· supply every child with the knowledge, tools and skills to protect themselves when in the home without adult presence
KNOWLEDGE
· ensure that every child has the knowledge base and skill set necessary to become an active participant in their own safety and well being by providing the education to employ home security tactics
· deliver the critical knowledge and skills in a fun filled, message centric event designed to ensure retention
· raise awareness of home security and informational measures that the child can take to enhance the safety of the home
· promote an awareness and understanding of the causes and prevention techniques for the most common injuries that occur within the home, school and play venues
· promote an understanding of each element of home safety that enables the child to recognize and avoid unsafe practices and situations
· ensure each child gains an understanding of the importance of identifying and correcting home safety hazards
· empower our youth to make modifications to their physical environment that assist in raising the levels of safety and security
TOOLS

· provide the tools necessary to identify the methods that the child may employ to correct each existing hazard
· ensure that appropriate home safety and security tools are available to allow each child to implement safety correction actions
COMMUNITY
· reaffirm the commitment of every portion of our community to ensuring each child develops lifetime habits that enable them to KNOW how to grow stronger and safer each day
· assist the child in identifying public venues where they may obtain assistance if help becomes necessary including standards such as police and fire but more unusual public resources such as supporting business locations
· facilitate a relationship between our youth and community protective personnel and medical providers increasing the likelihood that applicable assistance will be sought by the child
· provide each child with the ability connect with community members dedicated to ensuring home safety practices are implemented
· the child will confirm the placement of committed community service personnel as the heroes of our community
